“Door to door” is one of the most misused terms in freight, and it usually means something narrower than shippers assume. With Khaleej Cargo, it means exactly this: we collect from your Dubai location and deliver to the destination address in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, or Bahrain, using the same truck and the same point of contact for the whole journey — not a chain of separate carriers handing your cargo off between legs.
Why This Is Simpler Than Most Door-to-Door Shipping
In international air and sea freight, “door to door” usually means a forwarder coordinating multiple carriers — a trucker for pickup, a shipping line or airline for the main journey, another trucker at the other end. Each handoff is a place where cargo can sit, get mishandled, or lose visibility. Since we run the entire journey by road ourselves, from your Dubai pickup location straight through to the destination, there is no handoff between unrelated carriers — one truck, one company, one point of contact from pickup to delivery.
What’s Actually Included
- Collection from your exact Dubai location — give us your Makani number and we confirm pickup timing, wherever in the city you are based
- Full border documentation and clearance — commercial invoice, packing list, Certificate of Origin, and transit paperwork where applicable, checked before departure
- Border crossing — one border for Saudi Arabia and Oman, two for Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain
- Delivery to the destination address — the same truck delivers directly where the address has proper truck access; where it does not, we transfer to a smaller vehicle for the final leg, explained below
Why a Full-Size Truck Doesn’t Always Reach Your Exact Door
This is worth being upfront about, since it genuinely affects what “door to door” means for a given shipment. UAE regulations restrict heavy vehicles — generally anything over 2.5 tonnes — from entering residential zones and a long list of specific roads, either at all times or during set hours, enforced by RTA and Dubai Police. Other GCC cities apply similar restrictions. A large FTL truck genuinely cannot legally drive down most residential streets, regardless of what a quote might imply.
In practice, this means:
- Business and warehouse addresses with proper loading access — the same truck that left Dubai delivers directly, no transfer needed
- Residential addresses or streets a large truck cannot legally or physically enter — cargo transfers to a smaller vehicle for the final leg, which is standard practice across the industry, not a shortcut we are taking
We confirm which applies to your specific delivery address before booking, rather than letting you assume a large trailer is pulling up outside a residential building it is not permitted to enter.
What’s Worth Clarifying Before You Book
This is the part most door-to-door quotes gloss over, and we would rather tell you upfront:
- Import duty at the destination is typically the consignee’s responsibility unless otherwise agreed — a valid GCC Certificate of Origin removes this for genuinely GCC-origin goods, but it is worth confirming who is expected to pay before the truck departs.
- Residential or restricted-access deliveries — tell us in advance if the destination is a residential address or somewhere a full-size trailer cannot easily access, particularly for personal effects and household relocation shipments.
- Delays are occasionally outside anyone’s control — border congestion or a documentation hold can extend the journey. See why trucks actually get delayed for the real, ranked causes.
- Insurance is quoted separately, not silently bundled in or left out — see cargo insurance explained.
Door to Door Across All Six Services
Every service we run is door to door by default, not an upsell — whether that is an FTL shipment, LTL consolidation, reefer cargo, flatbed machinery, or palletized goods.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does door to door mean I never have to visit a depot?
For business addresses with proper truck access, yes — collection and delivery happen at your actual addresses. For residential addresses or streets that restrict heavy vehicles, cargo transfers to a smaller vehicle for the final leg rather than a large truck reaching your literal doorstep — this is a legal restriction in UAE cities, not a service limitation on our end.
Am I responsible for import duty on a door-to-door shipment?
Generally yes, unless otherwise agreed — a valid GCC Certificate of Origin removes duty for GCC-origin goods, but it is worth confirming this explicitly before booking rather than assuming it is automatically covered.
Is door-to-door delivery available for personal and household shipments, not just commercial cargo?
Yes — our personal effects service delivers to a residential address, though tell us about access restrictions in advance so we can plan for them.
Does door to door cost more than depot-to-depot shipping?
We do not offer a stripped-down depot-only option — pickup and delivery to your exact addresses is the standard way we operate, factored into every quote rather than sold as a premium add-on.
